| Michael de Angelo is a novelist, poet, and screenwriter. He has written three novels and numerous screenplays. His works include "Cyr Myrddin, the Coming of Age of Merlin", "Chronicles of the King, the Coming of the Bear," and "Viking, Killing the Young". His works explore the meeting place where heart, mind, and spirit create and impact the historical world. Author's Comments: "Cyr Myrddin, The Coming of Age of Merlin" This early work was an effort to create a plausible sage and mystic in fifth-century post-Roman Britain. Popular interpretations, and the writings of twelfth and thirteenth century and later French, German, and English chroniclers were avoided wherever possible in favor of contemporaneous or near contemporaneous extant literature of the times. The story opens with an ear for the oral story-telling traditions of the Welsh bards. "Viking, Killing the Young" This novel was inspired by readings of the Icelandic Sagas. While on its face an adventure story, it explores the turnings of violence and hatred in the human soul, violence not only in outward acts, but in thought and emotion. Early Christianity, as embodied in the kindness of one young woman, is introduced as an alternative to vengeance. "Chronicles of the King, The Coming of the Bear" This work was extensively researched, both in history and in language, to create a compelling inner dialogue within the mind of the young King Arthur as he prepares for battle. Fifth and sixth century sources were used wherever possible, and later romantic sources avoided. The work emulates the telling of the Anglo Saxon war poems, with the rhythm of the heartbeat, while exploring the forming of identity in force and violence. |
